"Psst - Computer, define "dancing.""
The rich user experience has me torn. It's very nice for people anywhere to be able to use the internet with seamless transitions, easy access, with designs that are comfortable to use. Heck, even my grandparents can use the internet with a little bit of finagling. However, this does make me think about the unique qualities of the early internet. People everywhere were finding ways to make things personalized, their own. When was the last time we had our own space where we could make everything truly unique to us, and us alone? Where can we share unique ideas and features that we've created by ourselves? Gone is this era, and I don't entirely expect it to come back. I mean, the future wants everything to be seamless and easy. Self driving cars are being produced. You may recognize the jingle for the "clap on, clap off!" lights, and might even be thinking about it now that I've written it. There are so many things being produced to make it life easy for people, less of a struggle. There are tons of platforms out there that make website design easy, like Wix, or websites like ChatGPt where we can get everything we need in just one place. It makes everything so fast and seamless, why waste extra time working on something when something else can do it for us? But that's the big thing. People ask "why?" when we should be saying "why not?" I mean, what are we truly gaining from everything becoming so easy? We aren't learning how to truly use the technology for ourselves. I don't even know how I'd go about using my computer if it literally didn't tell me how to set it up and add things to the desktop. People don't know how to do a lot with the technology that's being handed to them, and a lot of that I believe is because it's being "dumbed down" for us. We don't need to to learn computers, so why even try and struggle? But then, where comes the proud smile after working hard and creating something you love? Where is the success in making something new? Where is the excitement for a friend when you see something they've created and made specific to themselves? Eventually, I believe we'll be in a time similar to the Matrix. We won't know what is real, nor what is fake. Hologram technology will advance, user illusion will become practically seamless, and AI will think just like us, as we want it to. Although this will be easy, I don't want to live in a world like Wall-E. I don't want everything to be handed to us on a silver platter with no setbacks. We need to keep our intelligence with us, and learn for ourselves. If we learn for ourselves, then we're less at risk of technology being used against us. We can learn it and use it as we please, and it won't use us for its own benefit. I don't want the knowledge of what we're using to go away just because we make it appear simpler.
